CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HYSTERESIS BRAKE

The infinitely variable controllability of the hysteresis brakes is an essential feature that distinguishes the brakes and clutches. This means it can be used in a wide variety of applications.

HOW IT WORKS

The principle of hysteresis brakes and clutches is based on the magnetic effect of attracting poles in synchronous operation and on constant remagnetization of a permanent-magnetic material in slip mode.

NO MAINTENANCE REQUIRED

The brake or clutch transmits the continuously adjustable torque via an air gap, thus contactless, constant and wear-free. Due to the non-contact torque transmission, no maintenance is required.

INFINITELY ADJUSTABLE TORQUE

The braking torque or the transmittable torque is largely independent of the speed and only dependent on the current. It is constantly available for the applications from standstill to maximum speed.

APPLICABILITY AND HIGH PERFORMANCE

The system, which consists of a brake or clutch with control electronics that can be used in a wide range of applications, offers solutions that can be used directly for most applications. The brakes can cope with high levels of continuous slippage, and short-term overloading is also possible.

TECHNICAL FINISHES

Depending on the size, Kern hysteresis brakes are available with nominal torques from 0.05 to 52 Nm, in each case in a bearing version with a free shaft end or as a non-bearing version as individual components.
Braking power up to 2000 W in continuous operation,
4000 W in short-term operation (interval operation).

Why Kern brakes and clutches?

Magnetic powder brakes and clutches
Due to their construction, magnetic powder brakes and clutches offer a high torque with very small dimensions at the same time. The special magnetic powder introduced in the air gap is aligned to chains by the magnetic field of the coil. These chains have different levels of stability depending on the current and cause friction and thus a braking torque.

Permanent magnet hysteresis brakes
Because they are maintenance-free, permanent magnet hysteresis brakes are recommended for use in system parts that are difficult to access. They are characterized by a constant braking torque over the entire speed range. They are therefore the ideal solution for applications that require a constant braking torque.
